Measuring shunts are signal transducers. Here, a voltage proportionate to the current flowing through the shunts is taken off and routed to a meter which can directly display the voltage if properly calibrated. Measuring shunts are subject to exacting requirements in terms of accuracy and temperature resistance. Given the fact that they are subject to the same exacting demands, series resistors in measuring circuits used to reduce or step down high starting voltages are also called measuring shunts.
